SIUE (6-7-0, 1-1-0 MAC)
vs. IUPUI (0-11-0, 0-6-0 Horizon)
Wed., Oct. 18, 7 p.m.
EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE men's soccer plays host to IUPUI in its final out-of-conference game. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. Wednesday at Korte Stadium.
The Cougars dropped a 3-1 decision at Akron Friday. SIUE is 6-7 overall and 1-1 in Mid-American Conference play.
"Anytime you have a loss you want to quickly get back on the field and get things right," SIUE Head Coach Mario Sanchez said. "I wasn't happy with (Friday's) result, but I was happy with the energy and effort."
Sanchez sees value in playing the nonconference match.
"Sometimes people believe it is difficult to get ready to play a midweek game," he said. "But I think it get easier once we get into the rhythm to keep that rhythm. Every game we play it's another opportunity to learn about ourselves and to get better."
IUPUI, under second-year Head Coach Brian Barnett, is seeking its first win of the season. The Jaguars are 0-11 overall and have been shut out six times.
"They are playing better," Sanchez said. "They're in every game they play. They are putting the pieces together."
Sanchez said regardless of the record, he believes SIUE needs to stick to its game plan.
"I want to see a team that's going to come out aggressive and with a lot of energy. We want to dictate, and take the game to IUPUI. It's about us and dictating the pace."
