Cougars Celebrate Senior Day

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE softball said goodbye to five seniors who played in their final contest as Cougars Sunday.

SIUE lost 4-1 to visiting Tennessee State to close out the 2012 season. The Cougars did not qualify for next week's Ohio Valley Conference Tournament and finish with a 23-29 overall record and a 14-16 mark in OVC play.

"I just want to thank all of my seniors for four years of commitment and dedication," said SIUE Head Coach Sandy Montgomery.

Seniors Lindsey Barron, Brianna Fulginiti, Ellese Lawrence, and Whitney Davis all started Sunday's finale. Senior outfielder Paige Sheeder, who has been sidelined for more than a month due to an injury, took the final at-bat of the game as a pinch hitter for the Cougars.

Tennessee State, 15-39 overall and 5-25 in the OVC, jumped out to an early lead in Sunday's game. The Tigers would score on a wild pitch and a bases-loaded hit by pitch.

SIUE stranded seven runners on base and picked up its only run in the fifth with a single by Chelsea Yankolovich. The Cougar sophomore was 3 for 3 as both teams finished with eight hits apiece.
