JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – The SIUE women's tennis team played its first conference match of the season at the stomping grounds of the Jacksonville Gamecocks. The Cougars won their matches at all the positions that got to play, ending up with a 7-0 result for SIUE.
Today's result brings the Cougars up to 11-0 for the season and 1-0 in conference play.
Doubles partners Mia Frogner and Tiffany Hollebeck started off by clinching the doubles point for the Cougars at the No. 1 spot. They defeated Jacksonville State's Diana Monsalve and Genevieve Ulanday 6-1. SIUE's pair of Frogner and Hollebeck are still undefeated in No. 1 doubles play, winning their 10th match in a row for this season.
Singles wins were earned by No. 1 Lexi Aranda with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Genevieve Ulandy and No. 2 Mia Frogner with a tough win in the match tie-break over Diana Monsalve 4-6, 6-3, 10-8. No. 3 Morgan Steffes and No. 4 Tiffany Hollebeck also won their matches in straight set wins. Positions four and five were defaulted by Jacksonville State.
"We started off really good in doubles, and it transitioned into singles," commented Head Coach Nick Mueller. "This is a great start to the conference schedule. We look forward to Wednesday's match vs. Eastern Illinois."
The Cougars will be returning home for their first home conference match Wednesday as they face off against Eastern Illinois. Start time at 1 p.m. at SIUE's outdoor courts.
