EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE Athletics has joined with Prairie Farms Dairy, Inc., to take time each week to honor a Cougar student-athlete who excels both in competition and in the classroom.
This week's winner is volleyball player Samantha Knight. The redshirt sophomore from Orland Park, Illinois, is pursuing a bachelor's degree in exercise science and psychology and holds a grade point average of 3.67.
This past week, Knight helped the Cougars extend their home court winning streak to seven matches with wins over UT Martin and Southeast Missouri. She finished the week with 8.50 assists and 3.12 digs per set. Her 40 assists against Southeast Missouri was a new career high.
Knight, who has appeared in every set for the Cougars this season, leads the Ohio Valley Conference in service aces per set at 0.43. She tops the Cougars in assists with 466, which is eighth best in the OVC. Knight has nine double-doubles so far this season.
SIUE volleyball returns to the court Friday with a road contest at Eastern Kentucky. Match time is 5 p.m. CT.
