SIUE Men Fall to Saint Joseph's 77-65

         The Southern Illinois University Edwardsville men's basketball team lost its first conference game of the season 77-65 to the Saint Joseph's Pumas tonight at the Vadalabene Center.
         The Cougars drop to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in the GLVC. SIUE pulled within four of the Pumas after rallying back from a 22-point deficit at halftime. Saint Joseph's hung on and extended its lead in the last minutes of the game. The Pumas out shot the Cougars 50 percent to 33.8 percent.
         Wes Pickering (Springfield, Mo.) led the Cougars with a career-high 21 points. Pickering shot 9-of-16 from the field while recording a career-high five steals. Luke Humphrey (Rantoul) also finished with a career-high in points with 12 while Tim Rose (DuQuoin) added 11 points. Defensively, the Cougars were led by Nick Hartwig (South Wayne, Wis.) with 10 rebounds.
         Three Pumas finished in double figures, led by Brent Mason with 28. Hodges Smith added 19 points while Calvin O'Neal contributed with 12 points. O'Neal and Brandon Yates led the team defensively each grabbing nine boards.
         The Cougars are back in action on Saturday, December 2 when they face IUPU-Fort Wayne at 3:15 p.m. in the Vadalabene Center.
