Dr. Venessa A. Brown "In it to Win it" Leadership Development Initiative
GIVE NOW
In continuation from the previous pilot program with The Jackie Joyner-Kersee Foundation and Jackie Joyner-Kersee's Winning In Life®, the Dr. VAB In It To Win It Leadership Development Initiative provides various developmental modules that are carefully crafted to meet the unique needs of collegiate student-athletes. This program helps to ensure that all SIUE student-athletes are equipped with a sense of belonging and receive the necessary skills to thrive while in college but more importantly, be prepared for life after college.
Through this initiative, we are proud to also partner with Northwestern Mutual Clayton & Fairview Heights. This collaboration also meets the NCAA recommendations on creating an environment that supports student-athletes wellbeing. The program is proof to student-athletes that SIUE is about more than just winning in competition. The department is committed to the student as a person and believes success in and out of competition is a necessity to a balanced successful life.
The topics that are covered, but not limited to, are: financial literacy, sports psychology, time management, networking, self-Identity, effective communication, personal brand, and civic awareness and service.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
We encourage our SIUE student-athletes to engage with the community to create a positive impact within their lives, and our community. Student-Athlete aim to complete at least 4 hours of service per year. Through this engagement, we believe they will gain a sense of responsibility and pride within their community. Community engagement opportunities are aligned with both the community's needs, and the student-athletes' passions to enhance their opportunities at SIUE and after college.
