         (LOUISVILLE, Ky.) Marty Perry scored a team-high 17 points for the Cougars but it wasn't enough as the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville men's basketball team dropped its eighth straight game of the season against Bellarmine 87-70 this evening in Louisville, Ky.
         The Cougars, 4-13 overall and 1-10 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, trailed by 16 points going into the half 44-28. SIUE pulled within 13 points in the second half after falling behind 57-30 with 15 minutes remaining. As a team, the Cougars shot 42 percent from the field and 45 percent from beyond the arc (9-20). Bellarmine, 10-7 overall and 7-4 in the conference, shot 59 percent from the field while converting 12 of 18 three pointers.
         Nick Hartwig contributed with 12 points, 10 of those coming in the first half, and six rebounds. Garrett Thomas scored 16 points, 15 of those points coming from three point baskets, and added nine assists. Also finishing in double figures was Ben Garwitz with 10. Perry led the Cougars on the boards with seven.
         SIUE returns to action on Thursday when the team travels to Ft. Wayne, Ind., to take on IUPU-Fort Wayne at 7:45 p.m. EST.
