SIUE Falls to Bellarmine Despite Early Lead

         (EDWARDSVILLE, Ill) The Cougars were up by as many as 15 points in the first half but were unable to maintain the lead as they fell to Bellarmine 91-77 this evening in the Vadalabene Center.
         The Cougars, 7-18 overall and 4-15 in the conference, led from tip-off behind three consecutive field goals by Marty Perry. SIUE was up 25-10 with eight minutes and 49 seconds remaining in the first half, but Bellarmine slowly cut into the lead before going ahead 34-33 on a jumper by Oloyede Olumide with 3:37 remaining. Bellarmine, 14-11 overall and 11-8 in the conference, never looked back as they headed into halftime with a 47-39 lead. The Cougars fell behind by 23 points in the second half but battled back to within nine points, 84-75, with two minutes remaining.
         Marty Perry and Nick Hartwig finished with strong performances this evening. Perry led the team with 26 points, converting 12-of-22 from the field. Hartwig recorded his third double double of the season behind a career-high 24 points and 11 rebounds. Hartwig was 9-of-12 from the field and 5-of-6 from the line.
         Jared McCurry led the Knights with a 29-point performance. McCurry was a threat all night, converting 11-of-15 from field and 7-of-10 from beyond the arc. Brad Ayer finished with 17 points while Adam Etienne scored 12 points and grabbed a team-high six rebounds.
         SIUE wraps up its regular season on Saturday when the team faces Kentucky Wesleyan at 7:45 p.m. in the Vadalabene Center.
