Turnovers Cost Cougars in Loss

         The Southern Indiana took the first of two games with Southern Illinois University Edwardsville with a 74-63 victory Saturday evening at the Physical Activities Center.
         USI, which has won 23 straight at the PAC and is now is second place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, improved its record 14-3 and 7-2 in the GLVC. SIUE falls to 9-7, 7-3 GLVC.
         The second half started with USI bouncing out to a nine-point advantage after heading into the locker room at halftime ahead 28-25. SIUE, which committed a season-high 30 turnovers, mounted a comeback and re-took the lead, 46-45 with 11:03 left.
         USI regained the lead for good at 47-46 going and used an 18-7 run to push the lead to 10 points at 63-53 with 4:30 to play. The Eagles increased the lead to as many as 13 points in the final minute before winning by 11 points, 74-63.
         SIUE's Ruth Kipping made a successful return with her seventh double-double of the season with 25 points and 15 rebounds. Megan Grizzle was the only other Cougar in double figures with 10 points before fouling out.
         USI's Jasmine Moore led the way for the Eagles with 24 points. She shot 8 of 11 from the field (8-11). Jessica Stuckman followed Moore with 13 points, while sophomore guard Erin Wall dropped in 11 points.
         SIUE's next action is Thursday in a rematch against Quincy at the Vadalabene Center. Quincy previously defeated SIUE in Quincy 61-55.
