Cougars Run Strong in Chicago

October 7, 2002

The Southern Illinois University Edwardsville men's cross country team finished sixth out of 45 schools at this past weekend's Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational in Chicago. The Cougars also finished first out of the conference schools in the meet.
"It was a big meet," said Coach Darryl Frerker. "We had just a solid day from everyone on the team. It seems like someone different runs well each week."
Ryan Boyll (Normal) and Brian Taghon (East Moline) finished side-by-side for 24th and 25th place, respectively. Both were credited with a time of 25 minutes, 33 seconds on the 8,000-meter course. For Taghon, it was the third fastest time by a freshman at 8,000 meters, missing the school record by six seconds.
Nick Campbell (Charleston) finished 45th with a time of 25:52. Jason Olszowka (Lockport) placed 51st with a time of 25:55. John Sadowski (Springfield) was 65th at 26:08 while David Droege (Nashville) ran to a time of 26:55. Gary Parquette (Naperville) finished at 27:28.
The Cougars will now play host to the Missouri/Illinois Border Wars on Saturday. The team then has a week off before the GLVC Championships in Kenosha, Wis.
