Mike Ngonyani (Bloomington, Ind.) scored a season-high four goals as the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville men's soccer team defeated the Miners of Missouri-Rolla 7-2 on Senior Night at Korte Stadium.
         The victory moves the Cougars to an overall record of 10-4-2.
         Josh Richardson (Mt. Vernon, Ind.), one of the seven seniors honored in a pre-game ceremony, got SIUE on the board in the 12th minute on an unassisted goal.
         Ngonyani's first goal came in the 27th minute on an unassisted fast break. He then netted a shot in the 38th minute to move the game to 3-0.
         After a Missouri-Rolla (8-5-2) goal at the beginning of the second half, Pete Cacciatore scored unassisted in the 54th minute to lift the Cougars to a 4-1 advantage.
         Missouri-Rolla, who was playing a man down after a Tom Buerk red card, made it interesting with a goal in the 61st minute to cut the Cougar lead in half.
         But, Brian Higgins (St. Louis) scored in the 81st minute and assisted on another Ngonyani goal, and Ngonyani added a late tally to give the Cougars the 7-2 victory.
         Matt Evers (Edwardsville) played strong in net with four saves.
         The seniors who were playing in their final regular-season home game were: Chris Camacho (Quincy), Evers, Ryan Harken (Bloomington), Josh Hickam (Granite City), Matthew Horan (St. Louis), Richardson and Yuzuru Takami (Japan).
         Next, SIUE will host Bellarmine in a Great Lakes Valley Conference first-round matchup at Korte Stadium. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
