Southern Illinois University Edwardsville used steady defense and a 60 percent shooting second half and defeated No. 7-ranked Southern Indiana 70-59 Thursday night at the Vadalabene Center.
         SIUE (12-10, 10-6 GLVC) had four players in double figures and were led by Ruth Kipping's 19 points. Jessica Robert scored 14 points while Megan Grizzle and Amanda Buldtman added 12 and 10 points, respectively.
         The Cougars held Southern Indiana (18-5, 11-4 GLVC) to just 34.3 percent shooting for the game. Jessica Stuckman paced the Screaming Eagles with a game-high 24 points on 10-of-15 shooting.
         Southern Indiana took a 28-25 lead into the locker room at halftime as Jasmine Moore scored her only three points of the game on a 23-footer with five seconds left.
         The Cougars stormed back in the second half. With 10 lead changes, SIUE took the lead for good with 4:31 to play on a jumper by Buldtman. The Cougars hit nine free throws in the final 44 seconds to put away the Screaming Eagles.
