No. 3 Cougars Sweep CMSU

       Southern Illinois University Edwardsville took its No. 3 national ranking into Friday's doubleheader with Central Missouri State and left unblemished.
       SIUE improved to 36-7 overall with a 1-0 and a 6-2 sweep over the Jennies. The Cougars play a Great Lakes Valley Conference matchup on Saturday, facing Saint Joseph's at Cougar Field beginning at 1 p.m.
       RyAnn Spann threw her 10th shutout of the season in game one. She limited Central Missouri State to three hits.
       Cassie Witherell singled home the game's only run in the bottom of the first inning, scorinmg Valerie McCoy from second.
       In game two, Central Missouri State jumped out to a 2-0 lead off winning pitcher Melissa Koenig. Lauren Sigwing tripled to left center after Kassie Long drew a walk. Sigwing scored on squeeze play one out later.
       The Cougars answered back in the fourth inning. V.J. Schmidt singled with the bases loaded for an RBI, scoring Koree Claxton. Amanda Farmer was then hit by a pitch with the bases loaded from CMSU reliever Megan Leston. Koenig provided the other RBI on a fielder's choice.
       SIUE rallied for three more in the sixth inning with the big hit coming from Koenig's two-RBI double.
