         EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Ruth Kipping scored 24 points and freshman Amber Wisdom scored a career-high 19 as Southern Illinois University Edwardsville defeated Southern Indiana 67-59 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play Thursday night.
         SIUE evened its overall record at 9-9 and improved to 5-6 in GLVC play. With the loss, Southern Indiana falls to 6-13, 4-8.
         The Cougars took advantage in a game which finished with 51 fouls between the two teams. SIUE had 24 to Southern Indiana's 27. The Cougars, No. 2 in the nation in free throw percentage gave the Activities Center crowd of 1,000 a free throw clinic, hitting 29 of 33 for 87.9 percent. Southern Indiana hit just 24 of 34 from the free throw line for 70.6 percent.
         Kipping was 10 of 11 from the free throw line and a sharp 7 of 12 from the field. Widsom, who knocked down a pair of three-pointers in the game, also was 7 of 8 from the free throw line.
         The Cougars and the Screaming Eagles exchanged leads 11 times in the game, mostly in the first half. SIUE took the halftime lead as Wisdom hit a pair of free throws with 19 seconds left.
         The two teams exhanged a few more leads in the second before SIUE broke away during a four-minute span in the middle of the half when Southern Indiana went without a field goal.
         SIUE's next action is Saturday when the Cougars play Kentucky Wesleyan in the Owensboro (Ky.) Sportscenter. Game time is 1:15 p.m.
