Southern Indiana jumped out to an 11-point halftime lead and held on for a 90-77 victory over Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Saturday afternoon at the Vadalabene Center.
       SIUE, 5-6 overall and 1-4 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, watched as its four-game winning streak was swept aside by the Screaming Eagles, who improved to 8-4 overall and 3-3 in the GLVC.
       Southern Indiana's Mike Arnold hit a half-court shot at the buzzer to send the team's into the locker room at halftime with a 42-21 lead.
       SIUE fought back in the second half cutting the lead to six behind a 26-point effort from Ron Heflin (Gary, Ind.). Ron Jones added 19 for the Cougars while Rob Baumgardner had 13.
       Southern Indiana's Cris Brunson scored a season-high 26 points on impressive 8-of-9 shooting, including 4 of 4 from three-point range. Billy Harris pumped in 20 points off the bench for the Cougars.
       SIUE now heads to Louisville, Ky., for a Thursday matchup against GLVC rival Bellarmine. Game time is 8 p.m. EST.
