LaKesha Cole (East St. Louis) scored off a pass from Megan Grizzle (Salem) with 0.7 seconds remaining to lift SIU Edwardsville to a 53-51 victory over Southern Indiana in Great Lakes Valley Conference women's basketball action Saturday at the Vadalabene Center.
         SIU Edwardsville improves to 6-5 overall and 3-2 in the GLVC, while Southern Indiana dips to 4-9 and 2-4 in the conference.
         SIUE took a ten-point lead into halftime, but saw that lead deteriorate to three five minutes into the second-half. USI's Africa Sherrod jumper with 58 seconds remaining knotted the game at 51. A USI missed free throw with 13 seconds remaining in the game allowed for Cole's game-winning shot.
         Ruth Kipping (Quincy) led the way for the Cougars with 21 points. She was a perfect 11-11 from the free-throw line. Liz DeShasier (Carrollton) collected a team-high seven rebounds, including a crucial rebound in the final seconds that led to the game-winning shot.
         Pacing Southern Indiana was Sherrod who scored 15 and Shajuan Lindsey who added 14.
         SIUE will return to action Thursday when they travel to Bellarmine for a 5:45 p.m. GLVC matchup. They stay on the road for a Saturday afternoon contest against Northern Kentucky.
