Northern Kentucky used extra innings to win game two of a doubleheader and gave No. 23 Southern Illinois University Edwardsville its first conference loss Sunday at Cougar Field.
         SIUE (20-6, 7-1 Great Lakes Valley Conference) led 5-3 going into the top of the seventh and had Northern Kentucky on its final out, but NKU's Kristen Koors hammered a pitch over the right field fence for a two-run homer.
         NKU (14-9, 5-3 GLVC) then scored three runs in the eighth on a RBI single by Heather Cotner and a two-run double from Megan Owens to secure the 8-5 win.
         RyAnn Spann was charged with the loss after pitching three innings in relief and allowing five runs - three earned - on five hits.
         Katie Waldo and Jenny Esker each had two hits in game two, and Waldo tallied two RBIs. The loss snapped the Cougars' 10-game winning streak.
         SIUE took game one of the doubleheader by the score of 6-2 behind the pitching of Spann. Spann allowed two runs on seven hits and recorded seven strikeouts to earn her 11th victory of the season.
         Koree Claxton hammered a three-run triple to centerfield to help the Cougars to a five-run fifth inning.
         Esker was 3-3 from the plate and Holly Neuerburg went 2-3 with two RBIs to lead the Cougar offense.
         SIUE will now travel to Quincy for a Wednesday doubleheader before traveling to Alabama for three non-conference games.
