KENOSHA, Wis. - Southern Illinois University Edwardsville converted eight free throws in the final 37 seconds Saturday and defeated Wisconsin-Parkside 66-60 in men's college basketball action.
         Calvin Sykes, who led SIUE in scoring with a career-high 18 points, hit four of the final eight free throws. Joel Jaye, who scored 13 points and grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds, hit two. Tyler Hackstadt, who had 12 points, hit SIUE's final two free throws. Ron Jones was SIUE's other double-digit scorer with 15 points.
         SIUE, which improved to 8-6 overall and 4-4 in the GLVC, held the lead for most of the game, forcing the Rangers, 5-9 overall and 1-6 in the GLVC, to take their chances by fouling the Cougars.
         The move backfired as SIUE made 10 of 12 free throws in the second half. SIUE shot 50 percent from the field and won the rebounding battle 30-24.
         Dean Pogodzinski led the Ranger with 23 points, including five three-pointers.
         SIUE now heads home to the Vadalabene Center for a Thursday matchup against Indianapolis. Game time is 7:30 p.m. for Pack the Gym Night.
