NORMANDY, MO. - Joel Jaye came off the bench for 19 points as Southern Illinois University Edwardsville downed Missouri-St. Louis 75-64 in men's college basketball action on Friday.
         SIUE improved to 7-4 overall and 3-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. UMSL fell to 4-6 and 1-3 in the GLVC.
         The Cougars held a sizeable lead for most of the game. SIUE led 32-19 at halftime and held as big as 23-point lead in the second half.
         UMSL then roared back for an 18-2 run to cut the lead to 54-47. The Rivermen, however, had to resort to putting SIUE on the free throw line late. The Cougars responded by hitting 30 of 41 from the free throw line, including 15 of 18 in the last four minutes of the game.
         Jaye neared a double-double with 19 points and nine rebounds. Ron Jones pumped in 16 points, including three three-pointers.
         Jonathan Griffin powered the UMSL attack with 23 points. UMSL fell to poor shooting, hitting just 20.7 percent of its shots in the first half. For the game, SIUE was solid in both halves, hitting 51 percent from the field.
         SIUE now heads to Quincy for a 3 p.m. game on Sunday.
