Second-Half Lapse Costs Cougars

Box Score

January 29, 2004

The 11th-ranked Quincy University Lady Hawks went on a 20-2 run to start the second half and cruised to a 78-58 Great Lakes Valley Conference win over SIU Edwardsville Thursday night at the Vadalabene Center.
The loss drops SIUE to 9-11 overall and 4-9 in GLVC play. Quincy improves its conference-best record to 16-3 and 10-2 in the GLVC.
It was mostly a tale of two halves for SIUE, who was trying to win back-to-back GLVC contests for the first time this season. The Cougars shot 45.5 percent from the field in the first half and trailed by only five at the break. But 29-percent shooting in the second half cost the Cougars any chance of a comeback as they trailed mightily the entire second half.
Quincy's hot shooting display was powered by five players who averaged double-figures. Courtney VonderHaar and Amber Dvorak each scored 12 to lead the way as the Lady Hawks shot 53 percent.
Jessica Robert led all scorers with 15 points and added five steals. Sarah Schweers chipped in 13, which included 8 of 8 from the free-throw line. As a team, SIUE converted 17 of its 18 free throw attempts.
         Quincy outrebounded the Cougars 37-24.
The Cougars are idle from GLVC games this Saturday. They will be in action next Thursday when it plays host to Wisconsin-Parkside.
