Whitney Sykes broke the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville record for three-pointers with eight as the Cougars overpowered Robert Morris 90-70 in women's college basketball action Tuesday night at the Vadalabene Center.
         As a team, SIUE also crushed the team record for three-pointers with 16. The Cougars exploited the zone defense of Robert Morris. Five different Cougars, led by Sykes, recorded three-pointers.
         SIUE starts the season 1-0 with a solid victory at home. Sykes led all scorers with 24 points. Lindy Caredy was SIUE's only other player in double figures with 15.
         Robert Morris falls to 4-2 on the season. They were led by 17 points each from Nicole Dearing and Jessica Wendeln.
         Other than its three-point explosion, the Cougars also minimized turnovers with eight. Robert Morris committed 21.
