EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. - Dan Heimos netted 11 points as Southern Illinois University Edwardsville outlasted Missouri-Rolla 50-46 men's basketball on Tuesday night at the Vadalabene Center.
         SIUE, 4-2 overall, jumped out to a 36-12 halftime lead by shooting 54.5 percent from the field while holding the Miners to 16.7 percent (4-24). A second half surge by Missouri-Rolla trimmed the lead to four with 1:43 to go, but the Cougars didn't allow the Miners to score on their final three shots to preserve the victory.
         The Cougars were unable to make a field goal the last 11:15 of the game as they shot 42 percent in the contest. Missouri-Rolla hit 35.3 percent of their shots.
         Heimos was 5 of 7 from the floor grabbing a team-high five rebounds. Freshman J.B. Jones had six assists to go along with five points and four steals. Joel Jaye netted nine points and Justin Ward chipped in eight.
         Josh Shaw's 22 points and 13 rebounds led the way for Missouri-Rolla. Shaw was seven of 11 shooting in the second half. Jermaine Brooks netted 10 points for the Miners.
         The Cougars are back in action on Thursday night as Missouri-St. Louis visits the Vadalabene Center. Game time is set for 7:30.
