EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. - Southern Illinois University Edwardsville held Southwest Baptist to 29 percent shooting from the field in a 65-55 victory in women's basketball action Monday night at the Vadalabene Center.
         The Cougars evened their record at 4-4 while Southwest Baptist dropped to 4-2.
         SIUE and Southwest Baptist were even 26-26 at halftime. There were eight ties and 11 lead changes in the game. The Cougars took the lead for good at 12:31 left in the game as Amber Wisdom scored on a layup.
         SIUE went on a 8-0 run at that point as Whitney Sykes hit an old-fashioned three-point play and followed it up with a three-pointer from behind the arc at 10:21.
         Sykes and Lindy Carey led the Cougars in scoring with 13 points each. Wisdom added 12.
         Southwest Baptist's Gwyn Smith turned in the individual performance of the game with 21 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.
         The Cougars will now prepare for Wednesday's matchup with Harris Stowe at the Vadalabene Center. Tip-off time is 5:30 p.m.
