EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Jason Wright and David Logan combined for 38 points Friday as the University of Indianapolis held off Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, 77-71, in the first round of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament at Roberts Stadium.
         Wright finished with 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field, and he also grabbed four rebounds as fourth-seeded Indianapolis improved to 20-8. Logan added 17 points for Indianapolis, which defeated SIUE for the third time this season.
         Indianapolis used a 16-4 run early in the second half to build a 53-43 lead with 13:34 remaining in the game. Wright scored six points to key the Indianapolis spurt.
         A basket by Wright with 8:19 left gave the Greyhounds a 62-50 lead, but SIUE countered with a 10-3 run to pull within 65-60 on Tim Bauersachs' layup with 5:34 remaining. A basket by Andre Thomas with 2:25 left in the game brought SIUE within 69-67, but Logan responded by hitting a 15-foot jumper with 2:04 left on the clock to give Indianapolis a 71-67 advantage.
         Joel Jaye's tip-in cut the lead to 71-69 with 1:41 left, but Ryan Petty scored a basket seconds later to extend the Indianapolis lead to 73-69.
         Lawrence Barnes converted a pair of free throws with 29 seconds remaining to give Indianapolis a 76-69 lead, and the Greyhounds held on to advance to the GLVC Tournament semifinals.
         Calvin Sykes led fifth-seeded SIUE (16-12) with 17 points, and Bauersachs finished with 16 points. Ron Jones added 11 points for the Cougars, who made just 37.5 percent of their shots from the field in the second half.
         Barnes added 15 points for Indianapolis, while teammate Rodney Rollins came off the bench and scored 14 points. The Greyhounds converted 20-of-26 free throws and won the rebounding battle by a 31-27 margin.
