EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. - Southern Illinois University Edwardsville women's basketball coach Wendy Hedberg picked up her 400th career win as the Cougars knocked off Quincy 63-58 at the Vadalabene Center on Saturday afternoon.
         In her 26th season at the helm of the Cougars Hedberg has a all-time record of 400-306. Since joining the Great Lakes Valley Conference in 1994 Hedberg's teams have compiled a record of 115-73 in conferece play.
         The Cougars now hold a three-game winning streak, placing them at 9-8 overall and 4-4 in the GLVC. Quincy falls to 10-6 overall and 7-2 in conference play.
         The Cougars trailed by 33-29 at haltime before coming out on a 15-3 run the first 4:56 of the second half. The Hawks would cut the Cougar lead to 55-53 with 4:25 left. SIUE would make 8 of 8 free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.
         Alisa Carrillo had another solid game for SIUE, finishing with a career-high 16 points. She added eight rebounds. Whitney Sykes chipped in 11. In her last four games, Sykes is shooting 57 percent (16-28) from beyond the three-point line.
         Tanya Guell added 10 points, Amber Wisdom netted nine points, and Sara Unterbrink had seven for the Cougars.
         SIUE outrebounded Quincy 35-30 in the contest. The Cougars shot 47.1 percent from the field, while the Hawks netted 36 percent of their shots.
         Quincy was led by 11 points from Alex Wisser. Jessica Stuckman was 4 of 13 shooting for nine points while grabbing six boards.
         The Cougars go on the road next week as they travel to Southern Indiana on Thursday night at 5:15 before visiting Kentucky Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon at 1:15.
