EVANSVILLE, IND. - Sabrina Brandon hit a pair of free throws with six seconds left as Southern Indiana nipped Southern Illinois University Edwardsville 63-60 at PAC Arena on Thursday.
         Tiara Brown put the Screaming Eagles, now 11-6 overall and 4-6 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, ahead for good on a jumper with 19 seconds left.
         SIUE, 9-9 overall and 4-5 in the GLVC, went back and forth in the final minute of play against Southern Indiana. Whitney Sykes, who led the Cougars with 16 points, hit the fourth of her three-pointers with 1:00 left to play, pulling SIUE to within one point at 59-58. Lindy Carey gave SIUE, which watched its three-game winning streak halted, its final lead of the game with 40 seconds left with a short jumper in the paint.
         After USI called timeout, USI's Brown pulled up and put the Screaming Eagles up for good before Brandon added on the final free throws.
         SIUE's Alisa Carrillo, who started for the third straight game, pumped in 15 points for her third consecutive double-digit scoring effort.
         The Cougars led 30-28 at halftime but struggled from the field with 29 percent shooting in the second half. Southern Indiana came out of the locker room at halftime shooting significantly better, building as big as a nine-point lead before SIUE roared back in the final seconds. USI shot 13 of 24 (54 percent) from the field in the second half, including 4 of 7 from three-point range.
         SIUE now heads to Owensboro, Ky., on Saturday for a 1:15 p.m. matchup at the Sportscenter.
