EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. - Alisa Carrillo notched 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds, but it wasn't enough as Southern Illinois University Edwardsville fell to Northern Kentucky 71-61 in women's college basketball on Thursday at the Vadalabene Center.
         After a 30-25 halftime lead, the Norse used a 16-6 run the first 5:14 of the second half to lead 46-31. Tiffany Sproat's three-pointer with 6:21 left cut the lead to 55-48, but that was as close as the Cougars would get.
         SIUE falls to 10-10 overall and 5-6 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Northern Kentucky picks up its eighth straight win, improving to 12 overall and 9-3 in league action.
         Amber Wisdom netted 10 points shooting 5 of 8 from the field. Whitney Sykes struggled shooting going 2 of 10 from behind the three-point line for 12 points, adding five assists. Sproat came in off the bench to chip in six points on two three-pointers.
         Northern Kentucky's Connie Myers was too much for the Cougars to handle finishing with a double-double, 20 points, 13 rebounds, and five assists. Karyn Creager tallied 21 points going 8 for 8 from the free throw line.
         The Norse shot 43.9 percent from the field with 22 assists compared to 11 turnovers in the contest. The Cougars committed 11 turnovers shooting 38.8 percent from the field. SIUE was 5 for 16 (31.3 percent) from three-point land.
         The Cougars will be back at home on Saturday afternoon as the Greyhounds of Indianapolis come calling. Game time is set for 1 at the Vadalabene Center.
