WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Carl Landry led all scorers with 24 points as Purdue held off Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in exhibition men's basketball on Sunday.
         SIUE play close with Purdue all game, closing to within three points at 2:21 on a pair of free throws by J.B. Jones. Purdue led 71-68 at that point. A free throw by Nick Arth and a three-pointer from Mike Hardiek is all the Cougars could muster off the Boilermaker defense.
         Ty Johnson led SIUE in scoring with 16 points, including three three-poiners. As a team, SIUE was 11 of 24 from three-point range. Six different Cougars scored three-pointers.
         Asa Clayborne and Arthn were the only other players in double figures with 12 and 10, respectively.
         Purdue's Marcus Green scored 12, and David Teague added 10 points.
         SIUE opens the 2005-2006 regular season on Wednesday, facing Lindenwood at the Vadalabene Center. Tip-off time is 7:30 p.m.
