Cougars Texas Bound Once Again

         EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. - For the second consecutive year, the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville men's soccer team is headed to the Final Four in Wichita Falls, Texas.
         The fourth-ranked Cougars defeated sixth-ranked Carson-Newman 1-0 in the NCAA Quarterfinals on Saturday night at Korte Stadium. SIUE will face No. 15 Franklin Pierce on Dec. 2 at 2 p.m. on the campus of Midwestern State University.
         This will be the third time in five years the Cougars have reached the Final Four. The Cougars fell to Seattle in the national championship game 2-1 last season in Wichita Falls.
         Mike Banner netted the game-winning goal at the 76:35 mark for his team-leading eighth goal of the year. Banner split two defenders and fired a low shot from 18 yards out that beat Carson-Newman goalkeeper Tyler Baldock to the far post.
         Banner had five shots in the contest as the Cougars outshot the Eagles 16-10.
         The Eagles had a chance to tie as Bernado Cozzi hit the post with just seconds left, but the Cougars would hold on for the victory.
         SIUE goalkeeper Greg Crook made four saves as the Cougars set a new school record for shutouts in a season with 13. Baldock made seven saves in the contest.
         Brad Cobbs led Carson-Newman with five shots and three shots on goal.
         Pete Cacciatore notched three shots, and Brian Higgins had two shots on goal.
