EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. -- Krystal Rosengren's recorded 16 points as Southern Illinois University Edwardsville women's basketball team outlasted Saginaw Valley 71-63 on Saturday afternoon.
         The Cougars improve to 2-0 on the year as the Cardinals fall to 1-2 overall.
         Rosengren was 7-for-12 shooting and just one rebound shy of finishing with a double-double with nine rebounds
         The Cougars led 31-29 at halftime going on a 19-8 run to begin the second half to take a 13-point lead with 10:03 remaining.
         Saginaw trimmed the lead to 58-54 with 6:19 left in the contest, but SIUE outscored the Cardinals 13-4 in the final minutes to hang on.
         Amy Austin had eight assists and eights rebounds finishing with seven points. Freshman Deidra Dace netted a career-high 12 points grabbing five rebounds. Whitney Sykes added 11 points.
         SIUE shot 41.1 percent (23-56) from the field and 8-22 (36.4 percent) from beyond the three point arc.
         The Cougars outrebounded Saginaw Valley 38-30 as the Cardinals shot 46.6 percent (27-58) from the field the game.
         Jenna Schoeder led the Cardinals with 17 points on 8-of-18 shooting.
         The Cougars will travel to Southwest Baptist for a 6 p.m. matchup on Tuesday.
