EDWARDSVILLE, ILL -- Quincy took advantage of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville's 19 turnovers and handed the Cougars an 83-67 loss Saturday night at the Vadalabene Center.
         SIUE suffered its first loss of the season, dropping to 5-1 overall and 0-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. SIUE's 5-0 start equalled its best ever from the 1999-2000 season.
         Quincy's biggest push was an 11-0 run midway through the first half as the Hawks took advantage of five SIUE turnovers and grabbed a 24-13 lead. Quincy held a double-digit lead for the rest of the game, climbing to as much as a 24-point lead before pulling back at the end of the game.
         Tanya Guell led four SIUE players in double figures with 13 points. Also in double figures were Deidra Dace, Amy Austin, and Julianne McMillen.
         Jenny Wisser led the Quincy starters with 15 points while Megan Gavlick came off the bench for the same 15 points.
         SIUE is now idle until Thursday when its faces GLVC newcomer Rockhurst in Kansas City.
