SIUE Falls to Panthers

         EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. - Mary Czarnecki's 23 points proved too much as Southern Illinois University Edwardsville fell to Kentucky Wesleyan 64-50 in Great Lakes Valley Conference women's basketball on Thursday night.
         The Cougars had jumped out to a 19-8 with 9:34 to go in the first half. During that SIUE run, the Panthers were held without a field goal for more than 10 minutes.
         Kentucky Wesleyan responded with a 29-11 run over the next 15:26 to take a 37-30 lead. The loss drops the Cougars to 11-15 overall and 6-11 in the GLVC. The Panthers improve to 12-13 overall and 7-11 in conference action.
         SIUE is now in eighth place in the league after Southern Indiana lost to Quincy tonight.
         Alisa Carrillo led all SIUE scorers with 11 points, and Whitney Skyes netted seven points with seven rebounds and a career-high six assists. The Cougars shot 31 percent fromt the field and went 1-14 (7.1 percent) from behind the three-point arc.
         LaTasha Henry recorded 17 points and seven boards for the Panthers. KWC shot 36.8 percent from the field, including 53.8 percent (14-26) in the second half.
         SIUE will be back at home for Senior Day on Saturday as the Knights of Bellarmine visit the Vadalabene Center at 1 p.m.
