         HIGHLAND HTS. KY. - No. 15-ranked Southern Illinois University Edwardsville softball moved to the consolation bracket thanks to host Northern Kentucky 2-0 on Friday.
         The Cougars, 41-14, managed just three hits off Northern Kentucky starter Krystal Lewallen. The NKU hurler improved to 29-0 while her team improved to 52-0.
         The battle of nationally-ranked team playing for the first time this season ended up as a pitcher's duel. NKU jumped on SIUE starter Alicia DeShaiser in the first inning as Heather Cotner singled home Angie Lindeman.
         Northern Kentucky added an insurance run in the fourth inning behind SIUE errors from Holly Neuerburg and DeShasier.
         Casey Wantland came in relief for the Cougars and allowed no runs in the last 2 1/3 innings.
         The Cougars now must battle back through the consolation brackey. SIUE faces the winner of Northwood and West Virgina Wesleyan at 10 am (EST) on Saturday. If SIUE would win that game, it would get a rematch with Northern Kentucky.
