Sluggish Shooting Drops Cougars

         Southern Illinois University Edwardsville women's basketball shot a season-low 31.4 percent from the field Thursday in a 73-56 loss to Lewis in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
         The Cougars were 16 of 51 from the field and just 5 of 23 (21.7 percent) from three-point range. SIUE record returns to .500 at 9-9 with a GLVC mark of 3-7.
         Lewis, which shot 50.8 percent from the field, improved to 12-6 overall and 8-2 in the GLVC.
         Whitney Sykes and Julianne McMillen were the only Cougars in double figures with 14 and 12 points, respectively. Sykes added to her GLVC-leading three-point total with four treys.
         Darcee Schmidt led four Lewis players in double figures with 20 points. Her three-pointer to start the second-half scoring gae Lewis a double-digit lead at 37-26. Lewis led by as much as 22 points in the second half.
         SIUE next head to UW-Parkside for a 1 p.m. face-off against the Rangers in Kenosha, Wis.
