EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- The Southern Illinois University Edwardsville men's soccer team captured another Great Lakes Valley Conference title Sunday at Korte Stadium.
         The No. 6-ranked Cougars defeated the No. 18-ranked UW-Parkside 3-2 in on a Victor Pacheco goal 1:32 into overtime. SIUE's record improved to 14-3-3 overall after winning its 11th consecutive game. UWP's record dropped to 13-3-4.
         It was the third time in the last five seasons that SIUE has won the GLVC title. SIUE likely will be the host for the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championships, set to begin later this week.
         UWP took the lead early with a goal from Greg Walasek off of a corner kick from Bojan Jovicic with 30:33 to play in the first half.
         The Cougars struck back just less than a minute later with a goal from Dustin Attarian with a double assist going to Victor Pacheco and Randy Roy that tied the game. Pacheco began the play with a cross from 35 yards out on the left side to Roy on the right side about 10 yards from the net. Attarian collected the pass and guided the goal home.
         UWP took the lead again in the second half off of a penalty kick from Greg Walasek just 21 seconds into the second half. SIUE fouled Jovicic in the penalty box.
         The Cougars fought back again by tying the game off of an unassisted goal from Kevin Bielicki with 15:38 the goal put the Cougars even with UWP through the end of regulation. Bielicki stole the ball from UWP goalkeeper Jamie Lieberman and punched it into an open net.
         Pacheco, a senior, stepped up, putting the ball in the back of the net with a 25-yard shot that won it after 1:32 in the first overtime period. It was the 11th consecutive time SIUE has defeated UW-Parkside. UWP's last win against the Cougars came in the 1998 season.
