SIUE Stuns Nebraska 54-50

         LINCOLN, NEB. -- Southern Illinois University Edwardsville stunned an exhibition men's college basketball crowd of 7,567 at the Devaney Center with a 54-50 victory over Nebraska.
         SIUE Coach Marty Simmons' Cougars led wire to wire in the contest after holding Nebraska, a member of the Big 12 in NCAA Division I, to 20.7 percent shooting in the first half. The Cornhuskers finished the game shooting 29.1 percent against the No. 3-ranked team in NCAA Division II.
         The Cougars, which will open the regular season Wednesday against the Division I Bradley Braves in Peoria, were led by 19 points from Ty Johnson. The senior guard shot 3 of 10 from the field but took advantage of Nebraska's backcourt by going 12 of 14 from the free throw line.
         Sophomore Nick Arth joined Johnson in double figures with 12 points. Doug Taylor added six points and four blocks. Arth and Mike Hardiek tied for the team lead in rebounds with eight.
         Sek Henry led the Cornhuskers with 19 points, playing 36 minutes.
         SIUE shot 42.9 percent from the field and 40 percent from three-point range. Nebraska edged SIUE on the boards 34-33.
