Ferris State Pushes Back Cougars

         BIG RAPIDS, Mich. -- Ferris State hit four free throws in the final 1:11 and defeated No. 3-ranked Southern Illinois University Edwardsville 57-52 Saturday.
         SIUE, 2-2, did not take a free throw in the second half while Ferris State took advantage of its opportunities from the charity stripe by hitting 9 of 11, including the final four of the game by Michael Daniels and Terrance Shaw.
         Mike Hardiek, who fouled out with seven seconds left in the game, was SIUE's leading scorer with 10 points. He was in foul trouble for most of the game along with J.B. Jones, who had two quick fouls after scoring nine points in the first half. Jones picked up his third and fourth foul with 16 minutes left in regulation.
         The Cougars held Ferris State to 36 percent shooting but were hurt on the offensive boards. Ferris State converted 15 offensive rebounds into 14 second-chance points.
         SIUE heads to Great Lakes Valley Conference play Thursday at Bellarmine. Tip-off time is 8 p.m. EST in Louisville, Ky.
