December 21, 2006

The career steals record was grabbed by Southern Illinois University Edwardsville junior J.B. Jones in an 80-47 victory over Illinois Tech Thursday at the Vadalabene Center.
Jones celebrated with a double-double of 10 points and 10 assists, one assist shy of his personal best. His second steal in the first half broke the old record of 143 steals set by Kenny Stanley (1984-1987). Jones now has 145 for his three-season career at SIUE. He also ranks third all-time in assists with 362.
SIUE, 7-4, had little trouble against Illinois Tech, forcing 22 turnovers. SIUE had five players scoring in double figures led by Asa Clayborne with a career-high 18 points off the bench. Nick Arth, Mike Hardiek, Jeremy Gathing and Jones also scored in double figures for the Cougars.
Rob Knapczyk led Illinois Tech with 16 points.
SIUE is now idle until Jan. 4 when it travels to Missouri-Rolla for a Great Lakes Valley Conference game at 7:30 p.m.
