Cougars Tear Apart Lewis 65-46

         EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- Ty Johnson led the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville men's basketball team to a convincing victory over Lewis University 65-46.
         SIUE improved to 6-3 overall and 3-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Lewis dropped to 5-3 overall and 2-2 in the GLVC.
         Johnson's 18 points, seven assists and four rebounds during his 37 minutes of play was a huge key to the Cougars' success. The senior point guard's strong play was accompanied by three other Cougars who scored in double figures. Nick Arth, Mike Hardiek and Anthony Jones each netted 10 points for SIUE.
         SIUE jumped out to an early 12-1 lead in the first half. Lewis didn't hit its first field goal until the 13:17 mark of the first half on a jumper by Dustin Warfield. The Cougars never looked back in holding Lewis to 34.6 percent field goal shooting for the game.
         SIUE's defensive play was a key to holding Lewis to only 46 points. Doug Taylor led SIUE's defensive attack with four blocked shots.
         Lewis was led by Stephan Bolt and Warfield who finished as the only Flyers to break double figures. Bold put down 13 while Warfield followed with 12.
         SIUE's next tip-off is a non-conference matchup set for Dec. 16 at 3:15 p.m. against Kentucky Wesleyan in Owensboro, Ky.
