EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- The Southern Illinois University Edwardsville women's basketball team received its first loss of the season 68-56 Saturday at the Vadalabene Center against Lewis University.
         The Cougars fell to 6-1 overall and 3-1 in the GLVC while Lewis improved to 7-2 overall and 3-1 in the GLVC.
         Lewis' Darcee Schmidt led all players with 35 points while shooting 75 percent (15 of 20) from the field.
         Lewis outshot SIUE from the field 46.4 percent to SIUE's 29.8 percent.
         The Cougars were led by Whitney Sykes with 16 points along with her four assists. Amber Shelton added 15 points.
         The Flyers only other player in double figures was Jenna Mooberry with 10 points.
         The Cougars will play next against Nova Southeastern in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Dec. 17 at 7:30 p.m.
