SIUE Downs Missouri-Rolla 66-62

         ROLLA, MO. -- Whitney Sykes nailed a pair of free throws with six seconds left to ice Missouri-Rolla and give the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Cougars a much-needed 66-62 victory on Saturday.
         The victory improves SIUE's record to 12-11 overall and 6-9 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The win also keeps SIUE in the hunt for a spot in the GLVC Tournament in March. Missouri-Rolla, which is in third place in the West Division, is now 13-9 overall and 7-8 in the GLVC.
         On Saturday, SIUE 's Julianne McMillen posted her second double-double of the season with a dominating performance. She collected 19 points, 15 rebounds and three assists on 8 of 15 shooting.
         Amy Austin joined McMillen as the only other Cougar scoring in double figures with 10 points.
         Jaime Forsberg powered the Missouri-Rolla effort with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Nicole Dierking added 17 points.
         SIUE led most of the first half, taking a seven-point lead at 22-15 on a free throw by Becky Tenholder. Missouri-Rolla creeped back into the game in the waning minutes of the half and took the lead on a layup by Deosha Agneww with 1:05 to play.
         Missouri-Rolla would lead 31-30 at halftime.
         In the second half, the Cougars came out firing as Austin connected on a three-pointer to give SIUE a 33-31 lead. SIUE and Missouri-Rolla eventually would battle through eight lead changes.
         Agnew would tie the score for a final time on a three-pointer with 1:07 left at 60-60.
         SIUE answered with a layup from Alisa Carrillo with 54 seconds left. Austin would give SIUE a four-point lead off a pair of free throws with 28 seconds left.
         After two missed shots, Agnew rebounded and scored to cut SIUE's lead to 64-62 with sevn seconds left.
         With a quick foul, the Miners would send Sykes to the free throw line. Sykes, who hadn't taken any of SIUE's previous 23 free throws in the game, sank both shots with six seconds left to hand the Cougars the victory.
