EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- The Drury Panther women's basketball team completed a sweep of their 19 Great Lakes Valley Conference games, overpowering Southern Illinois University Edwardsville 75-49.
SIUE ends its season with a 13-14 record and a 7-12 mark in league play. Drury, ranked No. 3 in the nation in the latest WBCA Division II poll, will head into postseason play as the GLVC Tournament favorite after going 26-1 overall and 19-0 in the GLVC.
On senior day at the Vadalabene Center, it was a freshman and a sophomore who would the Cougars in scoring. Deidra Dace scored 11 points and grabbed five rebounds. Amy Austin scored 10 points, including two three-pointers.
Drury's front-line of Amy Belew and Amanda Newton each scored 17 points. Guard Allison Regier added 11 points.
SIUE was within five points in the first half with 0:53 to play but a jumper from Belew, an SIUE turnover and a three-pointer with four seconds left in the half by Regier lifted Drury to a 36-26 lead at the half.
Drury pulled away in the second half despite shooting 44.8 percent from the field in the final 20 minutes. SIUE struggled from the field in the second half, hitting just 6 of 27 shots (22.2) and missing all nine of its thre-point attempts.
