         EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. -- Alicia DeShasier hit a grand slam and a three-run homer Saturday in wins over West Virginia Wesleyan and Gannon, respectively, as Southern Illinois University Edwardsville advanced in the consolation round of the NCAA Tournament.
         The fourth-ranked Cougars defeated the Bobcats 11-2 in six innings, following that up with an 8-3 win over 19th-ranked Gannon.
         The Cougars, now 49-9, advance to play Southern Indiana Sunday at noon with the winner of that contest advancing to play Northern Kentucky in the Great Lakes Regional Championship. Both Southern Indiana and SIUE would have to take two games from the Norse. SIUE's games can be heard live on SIUE's Webradio at http://www.siue.edu/WEBRADIO.
         West Virginia Wesleyan ended its season at 44-24, and second-seeded Gannon finishes its season with a 41-18 mark.
         DeShasier, the GLVC Player of the Year, went 4-7 on the day with eight RBIs and three runs scored.
         The top-seeded Cougars fell behind No. 7 seed West Virginia Wesleyan 1-0 in the first inning on a home run by Shannon Moxey. SIUE answered with six runs in the top of the second inning. After RBI singles by Emily Lenart and Holly Neuerburg, DeShasier came through with a two-out grand slam.
         The Cougars added a single run on a RBI single by DeShasier in the fourth inning to lead 7-1. SIUE scored four more times in the sixth inning on RBI singles by Libby Lenart, Emily Lenart, Amy Rogers, and a sacrifice fly by Jodie Ohlau.
         In the win over the Knights, SIUE fell behind 3-0 in the top of fourth inning on three-run home run by Jaclyn Corroto.
         The Cougars then scored a season-high seven runs in the bottom of the inning, sending 10 batters to the plate. Emily Lenart made it a 3-1 game with a sacrifice fly, before an RBI infield single by Amy Rogers. SIUE took the lead as Holly Neuerberg reached on a fielder's choice to the shortstop that scored Ohlau from third base before pinch-runner Katy Biggs scored on an error by the Corroto. DeShasier then followed with a three-run blast.
         SIUE added a run in the fifth inning on a two-out RBI single by Ohlau.
         McCune threw a two complete games for SIUE, improving to 30-7 on the year. McCune has tied the single-season record for wins in the season with coach Sandy Montgomery when she was a student athlete in 1985.
         Rogers was 4-7 on the day with a pair of RBIs. Emily Lenart was 3-4 with three RBIs in the two games. Shanna Waldo went 2-5 with three runs scored. Kaeleigh Rousey went 2-3 with a runs scored against the Knights.
