ST. LOUIS - Randy Roy, Dustin Attarian and Victor Pacheco scored goals as Southern Illinois University Edwardsville men's soccer opened up Great Lakes Valley Conference play with a 3-0 victory over Missouri-St. Louis.
         SIUE, ranked No. 4 in the NSCAA Division II poll, outshot the Rivermen 13-8 at Don Dallas Field. SIUE improved to 1-1-2 on the season. UMSL was dealt its first loss of the season, falling to 3-1 overall.
         The game also extended SIUE's streak of Great Lakes Valley Conference regular season games without a loss. The streak is now 35 games with a 31-0-4 record during the stretch.
         Roy, a freshman defender, scored his first collegiate goal at 23:38. Roy scored on a shot from just outside the 18-yard box unassisted.
         Attarian, a sophomore, also collected his first goal at SIUE at 35:40. A pair of perfect passes from Roy and Mike Banner allowed Attarian to score from eight yards out. Attarian nearly made it two goals at the 77th minute when he hit the post on UMSL goalkeeper Zach Hoette.
         Pacheco added an insurance goal at 87:07.
         SIUE goalkeeper Nicholas Frasca recorded the shutout the Cougars, grabbing five saves.
         The Cougars are now idle until Friday when they entertain GLVC rival Bellarmine in a 7:30 p.m. contest at Korte Stadium.
