SIUE Bounces Back and Hits the Road

         After a solid win against Kentucky Wesleyan, the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville men's basketball team is about to start another Great Lakes Valley Conference road trip.
         "We were excited to bounce back after the loss to Southern Indiana with a win over Kentucky Wesleyan," said SIUE men's basketball coach Marty Simmons.
         The Cougars, who were led by Nick Arth (Edwardsville) with a career-high 20 points and Mike Hardiek (Teutopolis) with 14 points, also had a big contribution from J.B. Jones (Belleville) who had five steals and five assists.
         "We came out with a lot of intensity, and I am really happy with the effort they gave," said Simmons.
         SIUE also shot 48 percent from the field in the KWC win.
         The Cougars also got some quality minutes from Clint Burris (Owensburg, Ind.) and Asa Clayborne (Springfield) who both came off the bench and stepped up the intensity of the team, added Simmons.
         Up next for the Cougars is a pair of GLVC East opponents, Saint Joseph's and Indianapolis.
         The Pumas are currently 3-3 in the GLVC and 8-6 overall.
         Saint Joseph's returned several players off last year's 30 win team, said Simmons.
         "They have players who know how to win, and they play hard," added Simmons.
         The Cougars will then face a tough Indianapolis team that just came off of a big win over Drury and have beaten GLVC perennial power Southern Indiana. Indianapolis is 8-6 overall, 4-3 in the GLVC and is in a four-way tie for first place in the GLVC East.
         "They are a very talented team, and it is a tough place to play," said Simmons. "It is tough to win on the road in this conference."
         SIUE will play Saint Joseph's Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in Rensselaer, Ind. Game time for Saturday's matchup in Indianapolis is 3 p.m. EST.
