SIUE Fall at Saint Joseph's

         RENSSELAER, IND. -- Southern Illinois University Edwardsville missed all 10 of its second-half three-point attempts and shot 26 percent in the second half, falling to host Saint Joseph's 57-46 in Great Lakes Valley Conference men's basketball action.
         The Cougars even struggled from the free throw line, hitting just 15 of 24 for the game and 9 of 14 in the second half. Despite leading 27-25 at halftime, SIUE never found its shooting rhythm on the same court that the Cougars celebrated on after winning a ticket to the 2006 Elite Eight.
         J.B. Jones led SIUE with 16 points as the Cougars' record dropped to 10-6 overall and 6-3 in the GLVC. Saint Joseph's, led by 19 points from Devin Thomas, improved to 9-6 overall and 4-3 in the GLVC.
         The Pumas dominated SIUE on the boards, outrebounding the Cougars 44-20. The Pumas outscored SIUE 18-0 on second-chance opportunities. The Cougars held on to the board, committing just nine turnovers. It was a slumping shooting effort in the second half at 5 of 19 that kept SIUE from gaining any momentum.
         SIUE had a chance to move into a tie for first place after Indianapolis stunned Quincy 68-63. The Cougars now must travel to Indianapolis to face off with the Greyhounds Saturday in a 3 p.m. EST matchup. SIUE is now in third place in the GLVC West, one game behind Quincy and one-half game behind Southern Indiana, which dispatched Bellarmine 88-80.
