EDWARDSVILLE, ILL.- Led by Amber Shelton's 30 points and six rebounds, the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville women's basketball team defeated Rockhurst 82-74 at the Vadalabene Center.
         The Cougars increased their record to 14-5 overall and 8-4 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play while RU dropped to 8-11 overall and 2-9 in the GLVC.
         Shelton was one of three Cougars in double figures along with Whitney Sykes who had 19 points and Julianne McMillen who had 10 points.
         While shooting 5-10 from three-point range, Sykes broke the SIUE women's basketball all-time record for most three-pointers made in her career. Going into the game tied all-time with Terri Evans, Sykes took the all-time lead with 18:35 to play in the second half only to make four more in the game.
         As a team, SIUE shot 51.9 percent from the field while Rockhurst shot 46.8 percent. The Hawks took advantage of SIUE's 23 turnovers, outscoring the Cougars 23-9 on points off turnovers.
         Rockhurst was led by Chelsea Barnett and Amy Hake who each had 13 points for the game.
         The Cougars will play next against non-conference opponent Oakland City Wednesday Jan. 31 at 5:30 p.m. in the Vadalabene Center
