Grand Valley State Wins Regional

          EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- Nate Peck, of Grand Valley State, won the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional Cross Country Championships for the fourth consecutive year with an impressive 31 second victory Saturday.
          Grand Valley State easily won the team title with 20 points, placing six runners among the top 10 individuals at the regional meet held on the campus of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
          Wayne State was the runner-up with 90 points followed by Southern Indiana with 134 points and Northern Kentucky with 147 points. All four teams advance to the NCAA Division II national meet on Nov. 17 on the campus of Missouri Southern State in Joplin, Mo.
          Peck's winning time was 31 minutes, 5.70 seconds. Southern Indiana's Paul Jellema edged out Grand Valley State's James Gale for second place. Jellema's time was 31:36.83 in the 10,000-meter race.
          Saginaw Valley State's Nick Krus and Tiffin's Chad Roberts garnered slots at the national championships after placing ninth and 10th, respectively.
          Host SIUE finished 13th as a team while Erik Steffens was the top Cougar finisher in 19th place at 32:28.60.
