Cougars Win Fourth Straight

         EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- Southern Illinois University Edwardsville men's basketball closed out 2007 with its fourth straight victory Friday, a 69-52 drubbing of Trinity International at the Vadalabene Center.
           SIUE improved to 6-3 while Trinity International fell to 4-13. The Cougars are idle until Jan. 5 when they face Great Lakes Valley Conference rival Quincy. Game time is 7:30 p.m. at the Vadalabene Center.
           The Cougars picked up 16 points from T.J. Gray with four three-pointers. The senior guard is leading the GLVC with four three-pointers per game. Asa Clayborne added 10 points for the Cougars. Nikola Bundalo added six points and led all players with 12 rebounds.
           SIUE shot just 33.8 percent from the field (24-71) and 26.7 percent (8-30) from three-point range. The Cougars took advantage of poor ball handling from the Trojans, which committed 30 turnovers. SIUE grabbed 15 steals on the turnovers, including five from J.B. Jones. The Cougars, meanwhile, took better care of the basketball, committing 11 turnovers.
           Trinity International fell behind 35-31 by halftime despite shooting better than the Cougars in the first half. Levi Arnold powered the Trojans for 17 points, including 12 in the first half. The Trojans were slowed considerably in the second half, hitting just 1 of 10 from three-point range as SIUE led by as much as 22 points.
           Eleven different players scored for the Cougars. The SIUE bench outscored its opponents 32-15.
