SIUE Knocks Off No. 25 Quincy

         EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. -- Nick Arth led five Cougars in double figures as Southern Illinois University Edwardsville handed No. 25 Quincy its third straight loss 76-71 Tuesday at the Vadalabene Center.
         SIUE improved its record to 13-11 overall and 8-8 in the GLVC. Quincy fell to 17-7 and 10-6 in the GLVC after falling 13 spots in the NABC/NCAA Division II poll this week.
         The Cougars shot well from the field, hitting 54 percent of its shots. SIUE was shaky from the free throw line in the first half, hitting just 5 of 11. Free throw shooting became a strength in the second half, especially in the waning moments of the game. SIUE hit 15 of 16 in the second half, including 7 of 8 in the final 38 seconds.
         SIUE finished with a balanced scoring attack led by Arth's 15. Mike Hardiek and Ty Johnson contributed 12 each. Doug Taylor and Anthony Jones added 11 each.
         But it was the play of J.B. Jones which keyed SIUE's win. Jones scored just nine points but recorded 10 assists, the latter tieing the career record for assists set by Keil Peebles in 1979. Jones now has 437 assists.
         Quincy went to its heart and soul in the paint for its points. Joel Box shot 12 of 17 from the field and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds. Ryan Walker added 14 points. The Cougars held Andre Muse, the team's leading scorer, in check with eight points.
         SIUE now travels to Southern Indiana Thursday for a 7:30 p.m. game at Evansville, Ind.
